| Abstract | User studies are an important area of library and information science because they help libraries understand users’ information needs, preferences, resource-use patterns, and information-seeking practices. In the contemporary digital environment, information is available through a wide range of print and electronic sources, including library collections, online databases, institutional repositories, search engines, and social media. However, the availability of information does not necessarily ensure that users can identify, locate, evaluate, and use appropriate information effectively. Information literacy has therefore become an essential skill for students and researchers. The present paper examines the relationship between user studies, information literacy, and information-seeking behaviour, with particular emphasis on students and academic library users. It discusses the major dimensions of information literacy, common information-seeking patterns, factors influencing information behaviour, and the role of libraries in developing users’ information competencies. The paper also highlights the need for user-centred library services, information-literacy programmes, and continuous assessment of users’ changing information requirements. |
